Gas prices nearing end of rise

By 67AM KPUA News

Hawai`i gasoline prices have been rising in recent weeks, but that pain at the pump could be receding in the next month. The statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline on Sunday was up two cents from a week ago to $4.28 bracketed by a low of $4.17 in Hilo and a high of $4.44 in Wailuku.

Gasbuddy.com senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan says if the cost of fuel follows recent trends, then prices will peak between early May and early June, followed by a 10 to 30 cent decline over June over June and July.

DeHaan said the price of gas typically goes up each spring due to refinery maintenance and an annual switch to Environmental Protection Agency-required summer gas that requires more expensive ingredients.
