Moon eclipse set for tonight

By 67AM KPUA News

The moon will turn bright orange to blood red tonight as it passes through the Earth's shadow with a total eclipse visible in Hawai`i as well as North and South America. The eclipse starts at about 6:53 p.m., but will not be visible until 7:58 p.m.

Totality, when the moon changes color or blacks out, happens from 9:06 p.m. until 10:24 p.m. The moon will move out of the Earth's shadow from 10:24 p.m. to 11:33 p.m., reversing what some call the "bitten cookie" effect. There will be a second chance this year to see a total lunar eclipse. It will be visible again in Hawai`i on the nights of October 7 to 8.
