Hawaii tsunami advisory canceled

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) A tsunami advisory for Hawaii is being canceled after a large earthquake that struck off the coast of Chile.

The National Weather Service says Hawaii's tsunami advisory was lifted about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported a slight rise in tide levels for the Big Island and Maui, stemming from the 8.2-magnitude quake that struck Tuesday off northern Chile.

Weather officials say tsunami wave heights across the state are continuing to diminish.

Honolulu officials closed Oahu's popular Hanauma Bay Wednesday as a precaution.

Boaters and swimmers are cautioned about smaller sea level changes and strong currents.
