Fuel prices cited in Go! decision

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) Mesa Air Group is citing the price of fuel as a factor in its decision to end Go! airlines interisland Hawai`i flights on April 1 and redeploy its planes to other markets in the mainland U.S.

Mesa CEO Jonathan Ornstein says fuel prices have more than doubled since the airline entered the Hawai`i market in 2006. Company officials say its Go service served nearly 5 million passengers over a nearly 8-year run. Company officials say other parts of the operation make up more than 98 percent of the airline's business. The airline says passengers will be rebooked through Hawaiian Airlines or given a refund if they can't be accommodated.

Mesa has 71 planes, serving 85 cities in 36 states along with the District of Columbia, Canada and Mexico.
