Hanohano meets with House leaders

By Ken Hupp - 67AM KPUA News

State House leaders say no decision has been made yet on what action may be taken against a Big Island lawmaker under fire for her recent conduct after meeting with her privately on Monday.

Puna Democrat Faye Hanohano stirred controversy for allegedly making dismissive and hostile remarks to a college student during a public hearing and to Department of Land and Natural Resources staffers. Sources familiar with Mondays discussion say Hanohano was not contrite or remorseful, but insisted that she has been
mischaracterized and taken out of context by critics.

The House has the option of naming a special committee to investigate Hanohano or recommending that lawmakers take disciplinary action against her, but House leaders would prefer a voluntary agreement.

House Speaker Joseph Souki, Vice Speaker John Mizuno, and Majority
Leader Scott Saiki, were among the House leaders who met with Hanohano.
