Abercrombie opponents close in on Governor

By Ken Hupp - 67AM KPUA News

The first poll of the 2014 Governors race is suggesting that the incumbent has some convincing to do in order to win a second term. The poll conducted for the Honolulu Star Advertiser and Hawai`i News Now found that Governor Neil Abercrombie leads State Senator David Ige in a Democratic Primary match up by 47 to 38 percent with 14 percent undecided.

But the biggest surprise was the hypothetical general election match up that found former Lieutenant Governor Duke Aiona leads Abercrombie 48 to 40 and Ige by 51 to 34 percent.

The poll conducted by Ward Research was based on land-line and cell-phone interviews with 642 voters statewide from February 1-11 with a margin of error of 3.9 percent.
