Officer shoots boy, 17, in wrist at Hawaii school

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of three counts of attempted murder after he was shot by a police officer at Honolulu's Roosevelt High School this morning.

Honolulu police Maj. Richard Robinson says the boy was shot after he cut one officer with a knife and punched two others as they were trying to take him into custody. The officers were not seriously injured.

The boy was shot in the wrist. He walked out of the school and was taken to a hospital in serious condition, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The incident prompted a lockdown at Roosevelt, which has an enrollment of nearly 1,400.

The president of Hawaii's police union said the knife posed a clear threat and officers are trained to stop a threat, regardless of the suspect's age.
