Pilot in Molokai crash released from hospital

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) The pilot in a fatal plane crash off Molokai is out of the hospital after a head injury and resting at home.

Clyde Kawasaki said Tuesday his healing process involves flying again.

Kawasaki maneuvered the single-engine plane to land on the water after it lost power soon after take-off Dec. 11. Hawaii Health Director Loretta Fuddy died; Kawasaki and seven others survived.

The 60-year-old pilot says one of the first things he did after being released from the hospital Friday was sit in the cockpit of a plane that's identical to the one that crashed. He says he needs medical clearance to fly again.

Makani Kai Air owner Richard Shuman says he's proud of the way Kawasaki handled the landing. He says Kawasaki was the last to exit the plane.
