Ka`u beach re-opened after shark attack

By 67AM KPUA News

Punalu`u Beach Park in Ka`u is open once again after being closed Wednesday when a 29-year old Captain Cook man was bitten by a 10-12 foot tiger shark. The victim and two friends were body boarding about 20 yards offshore in the area of Ninole Bay when the victim was hit and knocked off his board around 8:00 a.m.

The man was treated at Ka`u Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and released. Personnel from the Department of Land and Natural Resources and County lifeguards re-opened the beach at noon Thursday after a helicopter flyover found no presence of sharks in
near shore waters.
