Matson reimburses some affected by Honolulu spill

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) The shipping company that spilled molasses into Honolulu Harbor last month is reimbursing some businesses affected by the incident.

Hawaii News Now reports about a dozen companies have filed claims against Matson Inc. after the spill shut down Keehi Lagoon and much of Honolulu Harbor for nearly two weeks.

Fly fishing tour company Bonefish Honolulu says Matson has resolved its claims.

The company says its bookings plummeted after a Matson pipe leaked more than 230,000 gallons of molasses. The spill killed more than 20,000 fish and other marine life.

Bonefish Honolulu's Joaquin DeNolfo says the company settled with Matson so it would have something to fall back on if bookings don't come through.

The DeNolfo family says settlement terms are confidential.
