Shark attack victim treated for infection

By 67AM KPUA News

A 16-year old Kalapana boy hospitalized following an August 18 shark attack is recovering from a medical procedure undertaken over the weekend to treat an infection.

Jimmy Ulualoha Ulu Boy Napeahi said the doctor found three types of bacteria in one of his wounds and had to cut and squeeze it to drain the fluid that had built up from the infection.

Napeahi was surfing in the area at Pohoiki known as Dead Trees, when he was attacked and suffered approximately 30 wounds to his hips, buttocks, foot, calves and thighs. His mother and two sisters have remained with him at Hilo Medical Center to help in his recovery.
