2 who died in Hilo house fire identified

By Associated Press

HILO, Hawaii (AP) Two people who died in a Hilo fire have been identified through dental records.

Hawaii County police say 67-year-old William Hachmeister and 60-year-old Dixeen Sakamoto died in last week's early morning fire on Hilo's north side.

An autopsy shows they died of toxic carbon monoxide inhalation from the Wainaku Avenue house fire. The bodies were discovered in the rubble after firefighters extinguished the flames.

A dog also died in the fire.

Fire officials estimated the loss at $150,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
