Teenager held in carjacking investigation

By 67AM KPUA News

A 19-year old former Mountain View man is in police custody on suspicion of robbery and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle following a Wednesday night carjacking at a Hilo shopping complex. Police were sent to the Puainako Avenue parking lot at
Target shortly after 6:30 p.m. where a 24-year old Hilo man said a local male brandishing a weapon threatened him, took the keys to his vehicle and fled in the late model Hyundai sedan.

An island-wide bulletin led to the late night recovery of the vehicle in Pohoiki and the arrest of the suspect, along with a 14-year old female who was released to her parents.

Police are viewing video surveillance footage recovered from Target as part of the investigation. If you have any information about the case or witnessed the carjacking, call Detective Clarence Davies III at 961-2384, Detective Grant Todd at 961-2385 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
