Hawaii man found guilty in Pa. professor's death

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) A Hawaii judge has found a man guilty of second-degree murder in the 1996 strangulation of a University of Pittsburgh professor.

The judge on Wednesday convicted Jason Lee McCormick of killing Robert Henderson, a guest lecturer at the University of Hawaii. The 51-year-old professor's nude, decomposed body was found in his Waikiki condo five days after he was last seen leaving campus.

The case remained unsolved until 2008, when McCormick confessed while being treated at a psychiatric facility.

Sentencing is set for Sept. 11.

McCormick told mental health examiners that Henderson's interest in boys and sexual advances while they had drinks in the condo caused him to snap.

Defense attorney Michael Green says his client was drunk and went into a rage because he was sexually abused as a child.
