LIHUE, Hawaii (AP) — A man is missing after being swept off rocks on Kauai's north shore.
The Coast Guard says a search was launched Monday near Kalihiwai Bay, but the man — described as a 62-year-old tourist — has not been found.
Officials say the man was standing with another man when both were struck by a large wave at about 11:30 a.m. One of the men was able to swim back on the rocks, but not the other.
The Coast Guard began a search using both a helicopter and a life boat and crew, and covered about 54 square miles.
A Coast Guard cutter was to arrive Monday night and the search was to continue Tuesday morning.
