No tsunami threat from Kuril Islands quake

A magnitude-6.9 earthquake struck the Kuril Islands this morning. But the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the quake did not generate a tsunami threat to Hawai`i. The U.S. Geological Survey said the temblor struck at 4:05 a.m. Hawai`i time and was centered 53 miles southeast of Ozernovskly, Russia at a depth of 32.6 miles. No injuries were immediately reported.
