WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) — A power outage at an airport on Maui was caused by a chicken.
That's right. A chicken.
The Maui News says a chicken got into a Maui Electric Co. transformer in the rental car area at Kahului Airport on Tuesday afternoon. The chicken caused a power outage that left some passengers having to disembark their planes by mobile stairway.
MECO spokeswoman Kaui Awai-Dickson says the outage began at 2:07 p.m. when a chicken got into the transformer in the rental car area and caused a short in the equipment. The airport and customers at nearby businesses were affected.
Power was restored about a half-hour later. The tower and air traffic was not affected. However, there were some minor flight delays.
