Freitas to head UH West O`ahu

Former Hawai`i Community College Chancellor Rockne Freitas has been appointed to a three year term as Chancellor of the University of Hawai`i West O`ahu campus. Freitas, the current UH Vice President for Student Affairs and University Relations will succeed Gene Awakuni, who has been Chancellor since March of 2005 and will retire in early July. The appointment was approved by the Board of Regents during Thursday’s meeting in Hilo. Freitas will be paid an annual salary of $226,128 — $15,128 more than his predecessor. He headed the Hawai`i Community College campus for six years before assuming his current position in July 2010.
