Kona woman victim of apparent drowning

A 67-year-old Kona woman apparently drowned Wednesday morning in waters near the Kailua Pier. Police and Fire units, who arrived on scene shortly before 9:30 a.m. say a woman swimming near buoy Number 3 found Nga Angie Prieto of Kailua-Kona floating face down and unresponsive. Crew members from a cruise ship tender boat and Fire paramedics attempted to revive Prieto, who was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:57 a.m. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
