Governor establishes refinery task force
|

HONOLULU (AP) — Governor Neil Abercrombie has established a refinery task force to help determine the best solutions for Hawai`i's energy needs. The governor signed an executive order on Tuesday creating the 29-member task force, which includes government officials and energy industry leaders.
Abercrombie says the panel will investigate the impacts of the impending closure of the Tesoro oil refinery in Hawai`i. He says the task force will research alternative energy possibilities and advise both the governor's office and the Legislature.
The governor told lawmakers during his January State of the State address that he planned to create the task force. He says Hawai`i needs to reduce its reliance on imported oil.
