Statewide Wind Advisory extended
|

|
A Statewide Wind Advisory has been extended until at least 6:00 p.m. this evening and if today is anything like Monday, then hold on to your hat. Gusts of 55 and 56 miles per hour were recorded in Kawaihae and Waikoloa creating at least one large dust devil and
blowing shingles off the roofs of several homes.
Home vides show a large dust devil in Kawaihae ripping up what appears to be pieces of roofing and spinning them into the air, while the other shows a street light swaying in the wind as shingles begin to rip off the roof of a home.
Monday's whirlwind took place in the same area where a dust devil occurred on January 5th. On that day, 55 mile per hour winds ripped the roof off a house under renovation in Kawaihae, tossing corrugated metal into an electrical transfer and causing an explosion.
