HONOLULU (AP) — Strong winds toppled trees and downed utility poles on Oahu, while leaving hundreds of customers without power.
Hawaii News Now reports that a wooden pole came crashing down along Kalihi Street and hit two parked cars on Monday. It also knocked out power to 700 customers.
In Aiea, city crews chopped up a very big tree and quickly turned it into mulch. Residents saw it topple over in high winds, shattering the rear windshield of a neighbor's car. Also in Aiea, fire crews helped out a homeowner after gusty winds tore off parts of his roof. A Pearl City man also had a close call when a wooden light pole fell right in front his car as he was heading home.
