Strong winds cause damage on Oahu

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) Strong winds toppled trees and downed utility poles on Oahu, while leaving hundreds of customers without power.

Hawaii News Now reports that a wooden pole came crashing down along Kalihi Street and hit two parked cars on Monday. It also knocked out power to 700 customers.

In Aiea, city crews chopped up a very big tree and quickly turned it into mulch. Residents saw it topple over in high winds, shattering the rear windshield of a neighbor's car. Also in Aiea, fire crews helped out a homeowner after gusty winds tore off parts of his roof. A Pearl City man also had a close call when a wooden light pole fell right in front his car as he was heading home.
