HILO, Hawaii (AP) — Big Island police have arrested a 55-year-old man for allegedly murdering a Hilo man late last year.
Police said Thursday they arrested Mark Anthony Whyne on suspicion of second-degree murder. They also arrested him for allegedly using a firearm to commit another felony.
Police say they were already holding Whyne for three alleged firearms offenses before his arrest on the on the latest charges Wednesday.
Officers found Faatetai Fiu with gunshot wounds at Mooheau Park in Hilo on Dec. 29.
An autopsy determined Fiu died from a loss of blood. Detectives are awaiting additional toxicology reports from the medical examiner's office.
