Hale dies at 94

Former state and county lawmaker Helene Hale has died at the age of 94. Hale's career in public service spanned more than four decades as a University of Hawai`i professor, Hawai`i County Council Chair and State Representative until retiring at the age of 88. She also served as Chair of the County Board of Supervisors, which later became the Office of Mayor. Hale died Friday night at her home in Hilo. Memorial services are pending.
