HONOLULU (AP) — State lawmakers have already begun debating a seemingly endless number of bills, and the legislative session is just getting started. Lawmakers will consider a number of proposals this week related to the budget, university tuition and local farms. State representatives today plan to debate whether to require labeling for genetically modified food along with other food-related bills. The House Committee on Ways and Means will hear public testimony today about the budget for the Legislature, the public auditor, the state ethics commission and related agencies.
Also today, two Senate committees will discuss whether to allow industrial hemp research in Hawai`i. On Tuesday, the Senate is holding a briefing to investigate why University of Hawai`i tuition
has been increasing and where the money goes.
