Colorado man dies in fall on Maui

WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) — A man from Colorado who was hiking on Maui has died in a fall. The 60-year-old man fell while hiking in the Waihou Spring Forest Reserve. The Maui News reports that fire crews from Makawao and Kahului responded to the incident on the west-facing slope of Haleakala around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Fire officials say the man and three other hikers were on the Waihou Spring trail within the reserve when he slipped and fell approximately 50 feet.
