WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) — A judge has handed down a long prison sentence for a Wailuku man convicted of repeatedly sexually assaulting a child over a five-year period.
The Maui News says 2nd Circuit Judge Rhonda Loo sentenced 46-year-old William Barrios on Friday to consecutive prison terms totaling 100 years in prison.
Barrios was convicted of 146 sex and kidnapping charges. The crimes occurred from 2004 to 2009, beginning when the girl was 8. She is now 16.
The girl testified during the trial that Barrios forced her into various sexual acts, a few times with her mother also forced to participate in their Pukalani home. She says Barrio threatened to kill anybody she told.
Police began an investigation in March 2010 when the child's mother reported the sexual assaults.
