Hawaii awards $53M contract for health exchange

HONOLULU (AP) — A Canadian information technology company says it has won a $53 million contract to build the online infrastructure for Hawaii's health insurance exchange.
The exchange is part of the state's efforts to comply with President Barack Obama's federal health care overhaul.
Montreal-based CGI Group Inc. said Tuesday it will construct and maintain the marketplace with a team of more than 50 information technology professionals in Hawaii. The company says it also helping five other states implement the overhaul.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services gave conditional approval to Hawaii's exchange earlier this month. The exchange is set to open next year.
CGI reported net income of $131.5 million in 2012.
