LIHUE, Hawaii (AP) — Permits to redo the Coco Palms Resort in Wailua Beach have expired.
The Garden Island says that may make it harder to re-do the property, which now is a visual blight on Kauai's busiest corridor.
County planning director Michael Dahilig says he is asking the Planning Commission to revoke various permits. He says he's also issued an order to show cause against the current owner of the decaying property, Coco Palms, LLC Ventures. Dahlig wants to know why construction has not started yet on the project and why there was no request filed to extend the permits, which expired Friday.
The expired permits would have allowed the Coco Palms reconstruction to include 200 multi-family dwellings and 48 hotel units.
