5 die in Big Island sedan, truck head-on collision

HILO, Hawaii (AP) — Hawaii Island police say five people are dead after two vehicles crashed head-on south of Pahala.
Kau District officers determined a 2012 Nissan sedan was traveling south at the Punaluu bridge on Highway 11 when it swerved to the left and crossed the center line.
The sedan crashed head-on into a 2002 Ford pickup truck, which overturned and caught fire.
Hawaii Police Department said in a statement Wednesday a man and woman in the truck died at the scene.
The male driver and male passenger in the sedan also died at the scene.
A male child in the sedan died after being flown to Kona Community Hospital.
Police say they've initiated four negligent homicide cases.
