Kona man arrested for December assault and robbery

A Kona man has been charged with 11 offenses, including robbery, assault, theft and various drug violations in connection with a December 16th incident in downtown Kailua. Police say a 36-year old Ocean View man was coming out of the garage access area of the Kona Plaza around 7:30 p.m. when he was confronted by the suspect who grabbed cash from his hand and ran away. The victim chased his assailant to the parking lot of the Coconut Grove Marketplace where the suspect struck him several times with a metal chain before fleeing the area. Police investigators later identified the suspect as 31-year old Jacob De Masters of Kailua-Kona, who was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged the following day.
