Occupant rescued from house fire that does $60,000 damage

A neighbor is being credited with rescuing an occupant from a Tuesday morning house fire in Honomu. Firefighters received a 6:14 a.m. alarm and arrived on scene at 28-1706 Puako Street shortly after 6:30 a.m. to find the single family dwelling fully engulfed in flames with the roof collapsed. The rescued individual was taken by ambulance to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition.
The fire, which was brought under control at 6:50 a.m. and extinguished at 7:30 a.m.did $60,000 damage. The cause is under investigation. Police are also investigating the incident.
