Man found shot to death in downtown Hilo

HILO, Hawaii (AP) — Police on the Big Island are investigating the shooting death of a man whose body was found in downtown Hilo. Officers received reports of gunshots Saturday night in the Mooheau Park area found the body of 32-year-old old Faafetai Fiu. Police said in a statement Sunday that a suspect remained at large. They did not release a motive for the shooting. The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports Fiu had been arrested and charged at least four times this year. His offenses included violating a protective order, harassment, domestic abuse and DUI. At a sentencing hearing in September, his public defender said that Fiu was homeless at the time. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
