Ka`u brush fire burns 15 acres

A late night brush fire burned 15 acres and closed traffic along Highway 11 in Naalehu. The fire broke out last night shortly before 9:30 p.m. on the makai side of the highway near the 63 mile marker. A total of seven units battled the fire, which was aided by brisk trade winds of 20-25 miles per hour. It was eventually brought under control by 10:45 p.m. Both lanes were reopened to traffic earlier this morning.
