HILO, Hawaii (AP) — The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory says lava is flowing from the Kilauea Volcano on the Big Island and reaching the ocean.
West Hawaii Today reports that lava flows on the coastal plain were seen entering the ocean Saturday afternoon. The eruption continued at two locations — Puu Oo vent in the volcano's East rift zone, and a lava lake in Halemaumau crater at the summit.
News of the lava reaching the ocean is creating a buzz among those guiding lava viewing tours.
It has been nearly a year since lava from the volcano has reached the ocean.
