Black Friday shopping underway on Big Island

The Christmas shopping season is officially underway. Black Friday shopping began a day earlier for many as the Hilo Walmart and Target stores opened at 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. respectively on Thanksgiving and featured a variety of specials throughout the evening. Various merchants at the nearby Prince Kuhio Plaza also opened early to shoppers with Macy’s offering midnight door-busters. East Hawai`i shoppers appeared to be taking advantage of the extra opportunities as the parking lots were less congested this morning than in years past.
