Hiker who got lost on Maui is rescued

By Associated Press

WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) A hiker who got lost in the Makawao Forest Reserve on Mauai has been rescued.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser says the 69-year-old woman was rescued by Maui firefighters after calling 911 at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday to say she was lost and disoriented.

An air search was unsuccessful in locating the woman, but firefighters eventually found her about four hours later during a ground search. She was about two miles from the base of the Kahakapao trail.

The woman was tired and dehydrated, but did not need medical attention.
