Multigenerational households highest in Hawaii

HONOLULU (AP) — The U.S. Census Bureau says more than 11 percent of Hawaii's households are multigenerational. The Census Bureau defines multigenerational as having three generations or more under one roof. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser says that is the highest percentage of multigenerational households in the U.S. The Census Bureau — using data from 2009 to 2011 — found that demographically the highest concentration of multigenerational households is of Native Hawaiian or Pacific islander ancestry. The data is part of the latest findings from the American Community Survey, released Thursday.
