Scientists keeping close watch on Kilauea lava

By Associated Press

HILO, Hawaii (AP) A volcano on the Big Island is putting on quite a show.

Kilauea is actually erupting from two craters. The volcano's Pu'u O'o Crater has been erupting since 1983, but now so is the Halema'uma'u Crater. Scientists say lava could spill out onto the Halema'uma'u Crater floor any day now. Hawaii News Now says lava is continuing to rise and at last look was only about 100 feet from spilling over.

USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory geologist Matt Patrick says the rising level of lava in the crater means that Kilauea's entire system is pressurizing.
