Police arrest 47 for drunk driving

The police drunk driving dragnet was busy as it nabbed 47 motorists for driving under the influence during the week ending October 21, 2012. That brings the year to date total to 1,170, which is 1.6 percent less than the 1,189 arrested during the same period last year. Major accidents are up 5.3 percent at 1,172 compared to 1,113 a year ago. And traffic fatalities have spiked by nearly 119 percent as 35 people have died on Big Island highways compared to 16 at this time last year.
