Japanese visitor dies in waters off South Kohala

A 35-year old Japanese visitor apparently drowned Monday in waters fronting a South Kohala resort on Kaniku Drive. Police arrived on scene shortly after 2:00 p.m. to discover that resort personnel had pulled an unconscious male snorkeler from the water and attempted to revive him. The victim, identified as Takashi Nakayama, was taken to North Hawai`i Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have classified the case as a coroner’s inquest. They have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
