WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) — A Maui beach is expected to be open Tuesday, unless there is another sighting of a shark chasing and attacking a turtle.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser says Ocean Safety Officers closed a one-mile stretch of Kanaha Beach Park for a couple of hours on Monday after seeing the shark attack the sea turtle at about 3:30 p.m.
A crowd of 40 beachgoers saw the attack in which the turtle's right front fin was lacerated.
The beach is the same one where on Thursday an 8-foot shark bit the board of a stand-up paddler.
