Radio Personality Mynah Bird passes away

A legendary name in Big Island broadcasting has passed away. Melvin “Mynah Bird” Medeiros, a fixture of Hilo’s radio airwaves for more than 50 years died Thursday at the age of 72. Medeiros spent much of his career as the morning drive personality at KPUA, beginning when it was known as KHBC. He later returned to KIPA, where he first began his career and did his final broadcast on the newly renamed KHBC in October of 2010. He had been suffering from a lung disease for about a year and was in Fremont, California at the time of his death. Funeral arrangements are pending.
