HONOLULU (AP) — The University of Hawai`i Board of Regents will resume discussing President M.R.C. Greenwood today during its previously scheduled meeting in Honolulu. The Board called a meeting to discuss Greenwood last Friday after lawmakers criticized her earlier this month about the athletic department's bungling of a concert fundraiser and her response to the slip-up. Lawmakers grilled Greenwood about a Stevie Wonder concert the athletic department planned but the singer never authorized. The university wired a $200,000 deposit to a company claiming to represent Wonder, only to hear later from the artist's real agents.
The university hasn't been able to recover the money.
Friday's discussions were closed to the public because they involved personnel issues. During the closed-door portion of their meeting, the regents will discuss whether the agreement forestalling a lawsuit that gave former athletics director Jim Donovan a UH communications job was properly approved.
The university put Jim Donovan on paid leave as athletics director July 11, when it began investigating the canceled concert. Five days later, his lawyer threatened to sue the university for defamation if school officials did not reinstate him as AD.
