Police identify victim of Thursday traffic fatality

Police have identified the man who died last Thursday (October 11) from a two-vehicle crash on Highway 11 in front of Hirano Store as 57-year-old John K. Isabel Jr. Isabel was fatally injured when his station wagon was hit from behind by a van driven by a 33-year old woman when he made a left turn into the store. Police are investigating whether the victim made an abrupt turn into the store and whether speed, alcohol or drugs were involved. The Big Island traffic death toll for 2012 now stands at 32, compared to 16 at this time last year.
