Hawai`i Senator Akaka to speak at AFN convention

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The upcoming Alaska Federation of Natives Convention will have a number of featured speakers, including Hawai`i U.S. Senator Daniel Akaka who is of Native Hawaiian ancestry. The Anchorage Daily News says the convention is just a week away and will be held at Anchorage's Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center. The convention is the largest annual gathering of Alaska Natives in the state and is expected to draw from 4,000 to 5,000 people. It will be held October 18-20.
