A 30-year-old Kurtistown man has been charged with a variety of offenses following his arrest for allegedly stealing a car. Police had been looking for Claude Keone Krause since August 17th when he was seen driving a vehicle that had earlier been reported stolen. He was spotted Monday morning while police were conducting checks at a Huina Road home in Kurtistown and was taken into custody after he assaulted a 41-year old Puna patrol officer who required treatment for his injuries. Krause was later charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, resisting arrest and first-degree assault against a law enforcement officer. His bail was set at $22,000.
