A 32-year-old Utah woman died Monday (October 8) in a motorcycle crash at the 28 mile marker on Akoni Pule Highway. Police say Jennie Wahlstrom of North Kaysville, Utah was a passenger on a 2012 Harley Davidson operated by her husband and heading
northwest, when he swerved to avoid a car that crossed the centerline and traveled 150 feet down a gulch. Neither rider was wearing a helmet. Wahlstrom was dead at the scene, while her husband was taken to North Hawai`i Community Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The Big Island’s traffic death toll for 2012 now stands at 31 compared to 16 at this time a year ago.
