Police investigate spear fisherman’s death

Police have launched a coroner’s inquest into the death of a 77-year old spear fisherman, who was pulled from the ocean at Coconut Island in Hilo. Fire rescue personnel say the man was unconscious when they retrieved him from the water Friday morning and took him to Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The identity of the victim has not been released.
