Hilo man dies days after near drowning

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (AP) — A 34-year-old man has died four days after he nearly drowned in a tide pool near Brown's Beach. Hawaii Police say Chris Broussard of Hilo and his 9-year-old son were snorkeling at Keokea Point last Sunday morning when a large wave swept the boy out. Police say Broussard jumped into the ocean to save his son. Bystanders pulled the boy out of the water, but Broussard was floating face down. West Hawaii Today reports emergency personnel took him to Hilo Medical Center, where he died Thursday morning.
